We have new things on deck for the next 12 months.

We’re excited to celebrate one year as an independent site bringing political science insights to a broader public.

In this past year, we’ve published timely and important pieces, including coverage of the devastating Hamas attack in Israel and ongoing war in Gaza, the U.S. Congress’s long battle over sending aid to Ukraine, and the historic nomination of Kamala Harris as a major party’s presidential candidate. We featured expertise on recent elections in India, Poland, South Africa, and the U.K., among others. We’ve also published more lighthearted pieces, like Taylor Swift’s effects on winning football games, Deion Sanders’ cross-partisan popularity, and the politics of Eurovision.

We also launched the Good Authority podcast, created a series of “Good to Know” explainers, hosted a few “Good Chats” with expert political scientists, and launched the “Good Playlist” series that curates collections of music or videos related to a political science theme.

Our team grew and evolved this year as well. We started a non-residential fellowship program and have already featured great work by our first cohort of “Goodfellas.” We will continue to grow our team with a call for applications for the next cohort in November. Talking about our team, we’re excited to announce that two of our contributors – Christopher Clary and Alexandra Guisinger – are now serving as editors.

We have also built out our weekly newsletter to include not only a round-up of our published content but a second, subscriber-only edition authored by our publisher, John Sides. At the end of every week, John highlights research and analysis that speaks to that week’s events, or finds some off-the-beaten-path topics, or shows you his favorite graphs, or continues his social media beefs. Sign up here to get this in your inbox.

To commemorate our one-year anniversary, we have started to publish videos on our YouTube and TikTok channels, seeking more ways to fulfill our mission to bring insights from political science to a broader audience. Video is another experiment for us. In addition to expanding the audience of interested people trying to understand politics and power from a research-informed perspective, we hope some of the videos we will produce this year could serve as resources for instructors.

We’re grateful to our readers and subscribers and want to hear from you. Tell us what you liked most during our first year and what you would like to see in year two. We’ll send you a little Good Authority swag as a token of our appreciation.
